Re: Triangle Resources Aboriginal RITE/WRITE Programs at Sto:lo Nation

To Whom it May Concern,

On behalf of Stó:lo Nation Community Development Department I am writing to express my enthusiastic support of Triangle Resources Aboriginal RITE/WRITE Programs. We have had the honour of hosting four groups here at Stó:lo Nation (two mens and two womens groups).

We are very excited with the results of the program onsite. We have had excellent feedback from program graduates, and are delighted to report a number of participants have secured employment upon completion of the program.

The other results of the program are more difficult to quantify, but no less significant for our people. Several participants with serious drug and alcohol problems reported a new commitment to sobriety during the program, and have maintained their sober lifestyle. Other report a renewed confidence, increased problem solving and parenting skills and a boost in motivation. As we provide assistance to clients with serious barriers and issues, we think this project would is an incredible resource to our clientele.

It is also worthwhile to note that Triangle Resources staff and management have been extremely respectful of Sto:lo cultural traditions and have been receptive to input from Stó:lo Nation staff.

Stó:lo Nation Community Development eagerly anticipates the renewal of Triangle Resources Aboriginal project in the coming years and looks forward to a mutually beneficial partnership.

If you have any questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact me at 604-824-2685 or email me at Samantha.kaji@stolonation.bc.ca.

Respectfully yours,

Samantha Kaji

This letter is in support of the Triangle Community Resources WRITE Programs. After hearing some of the success stories from other aboriginal communities, we recently started a women’s program at Katzie. The impact on the women attending the program was immediate and the following are some of their comments.

  • "This program got me talking more to others and is getting me out of my shyness. I’m really liking this program and I am really happy that you are doing this for us. Thank you."

  • "I have received support in my future goals. “Feel the fear and do it anyway” is something that is fitting. I am returning to school to advance and invest in my future. The assessments were very helpful to understanding and making self-awareness to my many styles. I am grateful for being a part of this group."

  • "I’m getting out of my shyness. I’m talking more to others and I know how to deal with my issues and that’s what makes me happy."

  • "Taking this program has helped me alot, helping me deal with stress and to find out what needs I have that aren’t being met. This program is alot more organized than other programs that are out there. The instructors are great at teaching the class and know what they are teaching. Very informative and structured."

I highly recommend the program as an important step forward in the difficult business of getting to know themselves, working through some of the personal and employment barriers and making career decisions that will help them develop a lifestyle that will bring them satisfaction and balance.

I look forward to working closely with Triangle Community Resources to continue to bring these programs to our community.

Sincerely,
Christine Savino
